Record-Breaking Swing for Kids Golf Fundraiser

The PLCS Foundation raised a record $75,500 through its sold out 40th Annual Swing for Kids Golf Fundraiser, marking the most successful tournament in the event's history. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the development of the new 18,000 square foot PLCS Community Engagement Center in downtown Papillion, a transformational initiative designed to expand opportunities for students, families, staff and the broader community.
Held June 9 at Tiburon Golf Club, the milestone event brought together more than 200 golfers, sponsors and volunteers to celebrate four decades of investing in PLCS students.
The tournament honored Judy Abels and her son, Bret Abels, as honorary starters in recognition of their family's four generation legacy of supporting Papillion La Vista Community Schools and the Papillion community.
"This event has always been about creating opportunities for students," said Lee Denker, executive director of the PLCS Foundation. "To celebrate our 40th tournament with a record breaking year speaks to the incredible generosity of this community and everyone who continues to invest in the success of PLCS students."
The tournament was presented by Boyd Jones and organized by a volunteer committee led by Chair Mark Vanderheiden of Gina V Physical Therapy and Co Chair Bonnie Moore of Sarpy County. Committee members included Bret Abels of Schumacher Elevator, Riley Hunter of PFM Asset Management, Spencer Kimball of Pinnacle Bank, Andrew Miller of Terracon and Sara Morrow of Northwest Bank.
Since its beginning in 1986, Swing for Kids has become one of the Foundation's signature fundraising events, bringing together local businesses, educators and community members in support of educational opportunities for PLCS students.
