Program Spotlight: Scholarship Recipient Update
Through the PLCS Foundation, donors have the opportunity to create scholarships that carry forward their values, honor a loved one, celebrate a passion, or invest in the next generation of leaders. For those who have already established scholarships, the impact extends far beyond tuition. These awards create opportunity and momentum at a pivotal moment in a young person’s life.
Blake Mazur was a 2025 scholarship recipient. As he completes his first year at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, his story is a powerful reminder of what donor generosity makes possible. Scholarship support is carefully stewarded, thoughtfully awarded, and directly impacting students as they take their next steps beyond PLCS.
We are proud to share a glimpse into Blake’s first year of college and the difference this scholarship has made.
Blake Mazur
PLHS, Class of 2025
Blake is a freshman at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, majoring in Finance with a minor in Accounting. Like many first year students, the transition to college brought new academic expectations and a full adjustment to campus life. He quickly found his rhythm, building friendships in the dorms, competing in intramural sports, and fully embracing Husker athletics.
The scholarship he received from Papillion Recreation Organization positioned Blake to start college strong, dedicating his time to coursework and campus involvement.
The award reduced Blake’s need for part time work during his first year, allowing him to devote more time to studying. That focus paid off. After his first semester, Blake earned a place on the Dean’s List. Now accepted into the business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, he is building professional connections that will support future internships and career opportunities.
When reflecting on the impact of his scholarship and the organization behind it, Blake shared:
“My journey with sports began with Papillion Recreation Organization at the age of 5, which led me to love soccer, basketball, and baseball. Beyond the games, I formed lasting friendships on those teams that I still have today. Through my participation in youth sports and being a three sport athlete at Papillion La Vista High School, I have learned time management, leadership, and accountability skills. I am truly grateful for your support as I take these lessons with me in college and beyond. Thank you again for selecting me.”
